In collaboration with academic and other support units across campus, we offer comprehensive services, programmes, and events to enhance every student's learning experience. We aim to create a welcoming environment where students from all backgrounds feel valued and empowered, equipping them to become responsible citizens who carry these inclusive values into the wider community.
SAO coordinates a wide range of support services in collaboration with academic and learning support units for students with Special Education Needs (SEN), including personalised assistance to facilitate learning adjustments, arrange access to assistive devices, and offer specialised career guidance and counselling based on individual needs.
Students who need support can register with the SAO. An individual meeting will be arranged by the Diversity and Inclusion Team to confidentially discuss necessary accommodations. The team will then liaise with relevant departments if appropriate to ensure a smooth and supportive learning experience for the students. All information is handled with the strictest confidentiality in accordance with all ethical and legal guidelines.
To support its growing community of non-local students and ensure their smooth transition, SAO launched the RISE Project in 2025 with aims of enhancing students' Resilience, Integration, and Success, with Empowerment as the guiding principle. The Project offers targeted support in areas such as anti-scam education, safety and well-being, cultural integration, and post-graduation preparation, fostering an inclusive environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and professionally.
Providing a learning and working environment free from sexual harassment for all members of the HSUHK community is a core commitment of the university.
To enhance understanding of sexual harassment prevention, students can access an online learning platform hosted by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC). The platform's content covers what constitutes sexual harassment, raises awareness of situations in which it may occur, and equips students with practical strategies to prevent and respond to such incidents.
Designated Case Officers are available for enquiries or complaints, and students may also seek advice from the SAO. All information is handled with strict confidentiality.
Since 2021, the Inclusion Festival has been SAO's annual signature event to promote diversity, equity, and inclusiveness on campus. Its flagship component, the Inclusion Carnival, brings together NGOs and Social Enterprises to host interactive workshops promoting values like SEN awareness and cultural diversity.
Throughout the year, we continue to foster an inclusive environment with unique workshops. Past offerings have included creative sessions like the Twist & Sign: Sign Language x Balloon Twisting Workshop and the Paws & Perspectives: Guide Dog Seminar, bringing inclusivity to life in memorable ways.
