HSMC x AU Service-learning Trip 2016/17

HSMC x AU
Service-learning Trip 2016/17

This year, from 16th to 29th July, 15 HSMC students from the HSMC Volunteer Team Student Organising Committee and 20 students of the Asia University joined hands to serve the local community. The first part of the programme took students to Food Angel, homes for the aged and hostel for the mentally disabled persons in Hong Kong, and engage in caring projects coordinated by HSMC Volunteer Team Members. In the reciprocal visit to Taiwan, students reached out the the homeless, children with disabilities and the abandoned animals.

Beyond engagement in services, discussions on social policy and community support services between two places were conducted to enhance students’ understanding on these issues.

HSMC x Asia University Service-learning Exchange Programme

HSUHK x Taiwan

In collaboration with the Asia University, the Student Affairs Office first launched the ‘HSUHK x Asia University Service-learning Exchange Programme’ in 2015/16. Emphasising on students’ civic and social engagement, the programme provides students the opportunities to reach out to the community and to enhance their awareness of different social issues in a global context, through reciprocal visit between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Programme Features

  1. Reciprocal Visit: The service-learning trip is conducted in both Hong Kong and Taiwan, allowing students to understand the social situations, policies and community support services and make comparison between two places.
  2. Student-led Services: Students will work together as the organising committee on itinerary design, service planning, liaison with NGOs, service implementation and volunteer management.
  3. Project-based Learning: Based on a specific topic (e.g. poverty), students will engage not only in community services, but also researches, discussions and sharing sessions, exchanging ideas with other participants and giving suggestions to the support provided to the underprivileged.

Students' Sharing

Timmy CHIU (Class of 2017)
Participant, 2016/17

Grace YEONG (BBA, Year 3)
Participant, 2016/17

Tammy FAN (BBA, Year 2)
Participant, 2016/17

Mandy CHU (BBA-MGT, Year 3)
Participant, 2015/16

Yammi LAM (BBA-MGT, Year 3)
Participant, 2015/16
