Application Forms for SEN Support
Assistive Devices and Technologies

Assistive devices and technologies are designed to enable people with special educational needs to live healthily, productively and independently, and to learn effectively. The assistive devices listed below are available for loan at the Student Affairs Office. Students who meet the eligibility requirement can borrow assistive devices by completing the borrowing form. Students will receive a confirmation email within five working days upon submission of the borrowing form. Students are encouraged to contact your designated SEN Case Officer if there is any item that you find helpful but is not on the list.

Borrowers must read through the following Terms and Conditions before borrowing:
Eligibility
Current students who have registered for the SEN Support Service.
If you have not yet registered for the service, please complete the registration form before using the assistive devices borrowing service.
Item Collection Period
Borrowers should collect the reserved items within 5 working days of receiving the confirmation email issued by the Student Affairs Office. Any uncollected items will be released to all eligible students to borrow after the collection period.
Loan Period
The loan period for each item is up to one academic year. All loan items must be returned to the Student Affairs Office by the due date.
Extension of Loan Period
Borrowers can apply for an extension of the loan period. Please complete the borrowing form 5 working days prior to the due date for renewal.
Overdue Punishment
An overdue punishment will be imposed on each loan item if returned late. Any item(s) that are not returned within the loan period will be deemed as lost. Borrowers will be liable to pay an indemnity for the loan item(s) (the original cost of every piece of equipment and accessory).
Replacement Cost for Lost or Damaged Item
Borrowers will be liable to pay an indemnity for any damage or loss to each loan item (the original cost of every piece of equipment and accessory).
The Student Affairs Office reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions of assistive devices borrowing service. Should there be disputes, the Student Affairs Office reserves the right to the final decision.

Barrier-free Self Study Room in the Library
The Student Affairs Office collaborates with the Library to provide academic support facilities and services to students with special educational needs. A barrier-free self-study room (A108) is located on the 1/F of the Library which is accessible during library opening hours. For reservations, please visit the Library website.

Height Adjustable Standing Desk: Allow to custom-set the spacing between the legs with the height adjustable design
Braille Display: Translate braille to print and vice versa (Details)

Computer: Equipped with assistive technologies including NVDA Screen Reading Software (Details & User Guideline), EasyDots (Details), Braille Instant Translation and Editing (BRITE) (Details), and Tiger Software Suite (Details).
OrCam Read: OrCam Read is a portable gadget that captures text, converts it into audible speech, and begins reading it aloud to the user. It is suitable for individuals with mild visual impairment or reading difficulties like dyslexia. For details, please approach the library staff at the Service Counter on 1/F.

Indoor and Outdoor Navigation Service
CityGeni is an innovative mobile application that revolutionises how people navigate indoor and outdoor spaces in the city. Designed with inclusivity in mind, CityGeni offers two distinct modes to cater to diverse user needs:
1) Map Mode: This intuitive mode visually represents the surroundings, allowing users to plan their routes and track their progress effortlessly. The map can be customised to individual preferences, ensuring a seamless experience for non-disabled individuals and wheelchair users alike.
2) Text & Audio Mode: Tailored for users with visual impairments, this mode offers auditory guidance and textual descriptions, enabling them to navigate confidently. The app’s advanced features, such as real-time positioning and turn-by-turn navigation, enhance travel accessibility and reduce the risk of getting lost.
One of CityGeni’s standout capabilities is its ability to provide unobstructed pathways for all users, including those utilising wheelchairs and strollers. This barrier-free approach ensures every student can move through the campus without encountering unnecessary obstacles, fostering a truly inclusive environment.

iGPS Unit
University Graduation Requirements:
iGPS Unit
(For Undergraduate Students Only)
The iGPS Unit requirement at HSUHK is a University Graduation Requirement aimed at promoting holistic learning and personal development. Students can earn iGPS units by participating in various integrated and experiential learning activities organized by HSUHK or external institutions. This initiative encourages diverse experiences and self-directed learning to prepare students for well-rounded success in their future careers and personal lives.
No specific procedures are needed to claim the iGPS unit for HSUHK activities. However, to claim the iGPS unit for non-HSUHK activities, participants must submit a form online to the SAO. Please refer to the relevant guidelines for the procedure.

Except for joining HSUHK activities, participation in non-HSUHK activities is also eligible for claiming iGPS units upon the approval of the SAO. The application procedures are as follows. Only e-submission would be accepted.

- Download the Certification of Participation (for iGPS Unit only).
- Acquire signature and the official stamp from the organizing unit for certifying your participation, otherwise, your application will not be processed.

- Keep the original copy of the Certification of Participation and proof (if any), in case of any dispute of record.

Resources – Financial Assistance



The Artists with Disability Development Fund is a scholarship programme funded by Lee Hysan Foundation and operated by ADAHK, with an aim to finance and assist outstanding Hong Kong persons (under 30 years old) with disabilities to acquire local or overseas arts studies or specific development path in the arts. Alongside the scholarship, ADAHK has been keen to provide opportunities for grantees to engage in various arts programmes or public showcases with professional arts practitioners, educators and mentors.

CareER Scholarship Program aims to give recognition to students with disabilities / special educational needs (SENs) in the pursuit of excellence in serving the community and achievement in extra-curricular activities and their willingness to challenge themselves to experience new exposure. Academic achievement is NOT the main focus in terms of selection criteria.
In addition to the financial support, each awardee is entitled to join the 6-month Mentorship Programme that will be matched to one of the CareER alumni, the mentor, in accordance with their disabilities/ SENs and career interests. The mentorship programme includes career talks/ workshops or company visits from various fast-growing industries.

The Continuing Education Program aims to finance thalassaemia patients with learning aspirations to pursue continuing education and training courses. Applicants
may obtain approval of HK$10,000 subsides for selected training courses within 5 years from the date of first application. Applicants are encouraged to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills to secure their present job or to prepare for a better career in the future.

Deutsche Bank – CareER Born to Be Scholarship Program is set up to give recognition to students with disabilities / special educational needs (SENs) in the pursuit of excellence in serving the community, achievement in extra-curricular activities and their willingness to challenge themselves to experience new exposure. Academic Achievement is not the main focus in terms of selection criteria.
Any students and graduates aged 24 or younger with disabilities / SENs and a valid Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card regardless of race can apply the scholarship.
In addition to the financial support, each awardee will have one designated alumni as mentor, mentor and mentee will be matched in accordance with their disabilities / SENs and their career interests. The mentorship program includes sharing sessions with guest speakers from various sectors and meetings with the mentors.

The Endeavour Scholarship is to give recognition to deserving post-secondary students with special educational needs in the pursuit of excellence in academic and other areas.

In order to strengthen the support to students with special educational needs, each eligible student will be offered an additional academic expenses grant under Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP). The actual amount is to be determined with respect to the student’s level of assistance assessed under the FASP.

The Scheme aims to subsidise individual PVI who requires the usage of high-performance IT for the purpose of studies or employment, but has genuine financial difficulty in purchase of the aids; and to support non-governmental and not-for-profit organisations providing services / schooling to PVI and tertiary institutions to acquire advanced Chinese screen readers, Braille displays and accessories to facilitate PVI’s surfing in the information world on Internet.

This scholarship programme offers an opportunity for young ethnic minority students to pursue taught postgraduate studies or master’s degree from tertiary level educational institutes in Hong Kong. Ethnic minority students who will join Year 1 in the academic year 2022-2023, studying Full Time or Part Time in Hong Kong, are eligible to apply. The scholarship will cover the full tuition fees, provide annual stipend & mentoring to the scholar.
