Eligibility and Subsidy Amount

  • Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE) [means-tested]
    • Local undergraduate students;
    • In receipt of means-tested student financial assistance (i.e. FASP) from the Student Finance Office (SFO) or whose families are in receipt of the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA);
    • Successful applicant can be subsidised from HK$9,000 to HK$60,000 for participating in programmes (Subject to the destination and duration of the overseas activity);

  • Scheme for Means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (Means-tested SSEBR) [means-tested]
    • Local undergraduate students;
    • In receipt of means-tested student financial assistance (i.e. FASP) from the Student Finance Office (SFO) or whose families are in receipt of the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA);
    • Successful applicant can be subsidised from HK$6,500 to HK$60,000 for participating in programmes (Subject to the destination and duration of the overseas activity);

  • Scheme for Non-means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (Non-means-tested SSEBR) [non-means-tested]
  • Non-means-tested Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-Secondary Students (Non-means-tested MES) [non-means-tested]
    • Local/ non-local undergraduate students
    • Successful applicant can be subsidised from HK$1,950 to HK$14,400 for participating in programmes (Subject to the duration of the overseas activity in the Mainland China);

Application

The application for SSE, Means-tested SSEBR and Non-means-tested SSEBR would be opened three rounds in the academic year 2024/25:

  • Round 1: 17 Jul –  1 Sep 2024
  • Round 2: 4 Nov – 31 Dec 2024
  • Round 3: 12 May – 22 Jun 2025

(For the activities not organised by HSUHK, application must be submitted one month prior to the commencement of the activity for approval.)

Please submit the online application form (SFR-APP) together with the supporting documents during the application period set by the Student Affairs Office (SAO).

Important Notes

  • During the activity participation, students should keep all expenditure records (both hardcopy and electronic receipts, and bookkeeping records).
  • Disbursement will be made upon completion of the programme, submission of reflection report and other necessary documents. 
  • The subsidy amount should not exceed the direct costs arising from the activity. Any other subsidies/ scholarships to cover expenses in connection with the same activity will be considered in calculation on the entitled subsidy amount.

Scheme for Non-means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to "Belt and Road" Regions for Post-secondary Students (Non-means-tested SSEBR)

Starting from the 2019/20 academic year, the Education Bureau (EDB) introduces a new scheme, namely the Scheme for Non-means-tested Subsidy on Exchange to “Belt and Road” Regions for Post-secondary Students (Non-means-tested SSEBR), which provides a non-means-tested subsidy funding for local students who enrolled in eligible  programmes to participate in exchange activities held in the Belt and Road Regions.

Eligibility

  1. HSUHK local students who enrolled in full-time locally-accredited undergraduate programmes at the time of application and throughout the duration of the subsidised exchange activity; and
  2. HSUHK local students who have ability to complete the outbound exchange activity held in the Belt and Road Regions, which is comprising substantive teaching and learning elements, lasting for at least five days, and organised and/or endorsed by HSUHK.

Subsidy Amount

Successful applicant can be subsidised from HK$1,950 to HK$18,000 for participating in programmes (Subject to Destination and Duration of the exchange activity). Each student will only be eligible for assistance under the Non-means-tested SSEBR once throughout his/her study in programme(s) at the same level of study (i.e. sub-degree or undergraduate) in Hong Kong.

1. Only students admitted with current year HKDSE result are eligible.
2. Academic result of combined HKDSE certificates will not be considered.
3. Students will not be awarded any entrance scholarship if they have transferred or been readmitted to the same or another programme for whatever reasons.
4. The scholarship is distributed on a competitive and merit basis.
