The prestigious Rhodes Scholarship is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship for young people to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of Oxford, UK. The Rhodes Scholarship is merit-based, with the purpose of developing public-spirited leaders, and to promote international understanding and peace through an international community of Scholars.

The Rhodes Trust will host online information sessions where you can get first-hand information on the scholarship scheme and you will hear from Rhodes Scholars from Hong Kong about their application journey and experience in Oxford.

Scholarship Details

HSUHK Residential College Bursary

The Tung Foundation Residential College Bursary

In provision of comprehensive financial support to students with financial difficulties, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (the “HSUHK”) establishes the residential college (RC) bursary scheme starting from academic year 2018/19. With the generous support from The Tung Foundation (the “donor”), the bursary scheme is sponsored by The Tung Foundation since the academic year 2019/20 and named as “The Tung Foundation Residential College Bursary”.

Eligibility & Criteria

  • Full-time local students with residential college offer in academic year 2022/23 with full payment of residential colleges fee paid;
  • With proven financial needs;
  • Priority would be given to students from family currently supported by the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme and/or students receiving financial assistance under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) (according to the level of financial assistance of the Tuition Fee Grant) as granted by the Student Finance Office of the HKSAR Government;
  • Students with special needs, under extenuating circumstances, would be considered on a case-by-case basis; and
  • With Year GPA of 2.0 or above in academic year 2021/22 (applicable to non-first year students only).

HSUHK Emergency Grant

HSUHK Emergency Grant

Eligibility

All full-time undergraduate local students who experience sudden unforeseen financial difficulties that will affect their studies at HSUHK may apply for the emergency grant.

Form of Assistance

The amount of grant will be decided on a case-by-case basis by the Student Affairs Office (SAO).

Application Procedure

Please complete the online application form with providing relevant documents through the SFR-APP. Applicants will be interviewed by staff of the SAO for need assessment.

Handling of Information

The personal data/information provided in the application form, and in any supplementary document(s), will be used by the SAO for processing/counter-checking of application for the emergency grant during the applicants’ studies in HSUHK, and the compilation of relevant statistics to facilitate analysis of applicant’s needs and review of different financial assistance schemes.

The application form and related documents will be kept for a period of seven years.

Applicant has the right to obtain access and makes the correction to the personal data provided by him/her in the application. Such request should be made in writing and addressed to the Director of Student Affairs of HSUHK.

HSUHK Bursary Scheme

HSUHK Bursary Scheme

Apart from the Government financial assistance schemes, the University offers HSUHK Bursary Scheme to assist full-time local students with financial difficulties. This scheme is a supplement to the Government financial assistance schemes and is allocated to students on the basis of their financial needs.

Students with financial needs can apply for the HSUHK Bursary Scheme annually, subject to the availability of funds. Exact opening and closing dates subject to the timeline of the government financial assistance schemes and would be announced to students via eCampus and HSUHK email. Students have to submit a completed application form with the personal statement and supporting documents through the SFR-APP by the designated deadline set by the SAO. The interview may be arranged, as appropriate.

Eligibility and Criteria

  • Full-time undergraduate local non-first year students in the academic year 2024/25;
  • Students have proven financial needs and received financial assistance under the Financial Assistance Scheme for Post-secondary Students (FASP) (according to the level of financial assistance of the Tuition Fee Grant) as granted by the Student Finance Office of the HKSAR Government in the academic year 2024/25;
  • Priority will be given to students from family currently supported by the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) Scheme, or students who have not received other financial assistance from the University in the same academic year;
  • Students with special needs, under extenuating circumstances, would be considered on a case-by-case basis; and
  • With Year GPA of 2.0 or above in the academic year 2023/24.

Pilot Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-Secondary Students (MES)

Non-means-tested Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-Secondary Students (Non-means-tested MES)

Starting from the 2019/20 academic year, the Education Bureau (EDB) introduces a new scheme, namely the Scheme for Non-means-tested Mainland Experience Scheme for Post-secondary Students (Non-means-tested MES), which provides a non-means-tested subsidy funding for both local and non-local students who enrolled in eligible programmes to participate in outbound exchange activities comprising substantive teaching and learning elements to be held in the Mainland.

Eligibility

Both local and non-local, who are enrolled in full-time self-financing locally-accredited post-secondary programmes, are eligible to apply Non-means-tested MES during their studies. Participation of students is voluntary and priority should be given to those who have not received any subsidy under scholarship/sponsorship/subsidy schemes wholly or partly funded by the Government.

Subsidy Amount

Each participating student can be subsidised up to HK$14,400 for participating in programmes. Each student will be able to receive subsidy under the Non-means-tested MES once only.

Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE)

Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange for Post-secondary Students (SSE)

Starting from the 2014-15 financial year, the Government provides annual funding for post-secondary institutions offering full-time locally-accredited undergraduate (including top-up) programmes to subsidise financially needy students of such programmes to participate in exchange activities. Means-tested grant will be provided for financially needy students to participate in the eligible exchange activities.

Eligibility

  1. HSUHK local students who enrolled in full-time locally-accredited undergraduate programmes at the time of application and throughout the duration of the subsidised exchange activity;
  2. HSUHK local students who in receipt of means-tested student financial assistance from Student Finance Office (SFO) of the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency or whose families are in receipt of the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA); and
  3. HSUHK local students who have ability to complete the outbound exchange activity comprising substantive teaching and learning elements, lasting for at least two weeks, and organised and/or endorsed by HSUHK.

Subsidy Amount

Successful applicant can be subsidised from HK$9,000 to HK$60,000 for participating in programmes (Subject to Destination and Duration of the exchange activity). Each student will only be eligible for assistance under the SSE once throughout their study in programme(s) at the same level of study in Hong Kong.
