HSUHK A Cappella Group

HSUHK A Cappella

HSUHK A Cappella was established in 2017/18, aiming to gather the singing talents in the University.

Members are selected from auditions conducted by Ms. Miri Leung. Miri is also one of the founding member of SENZA A Cappella. Under Miri’s dynamic and professional training, members are equipped with the skills on vocal singing and teamwork.

HSUHK A Cappella gave their performance in University events such as Student Orientation Day. In the meantime, members are invited to lead the College Anthem and to give individual performance in University events such as the HSUHK Chinese New Year Staff Party and the HSUHK Founders’ Day. We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with community partners for performance and promotion of A Cappella in Hong Kong.

For performance invitation, please complete the Request Form and submit to SAO via sdcl.sao@hsu.edu.hk.

VolTrekkers Service-learning Scheme

VolTrekkers Service-learning Scheme

VolTrekkers Service-learning Training Scheme is organized by Student Affairs Office (SAO) and supported by Hong Kong Shun Lung Yan Chak Foundation Limited (香港順龍仁澤基金會) which aims at providing solid service-learning experience to HSUHK students and fostering them to become global citizens. Students can plan and implement their own service projects through this Scheme under the support and guidance from SAO.

Scheme Introduction

Through the scheme, students will be able to come into close contact with the service target and thus have a deeper understanding and reflection on a specific social issue.

They can learn, grow, and enrich their life experience by planning, implementing, reflecting, and evaluating their service experience. After the completion of the whole program, students can equip numerous skills such as research, interpersonal communication, problem solving and program design.

The Scheme is divided into THREE stages:

Stage 1- Participating in various trainings on specific social issues

The scheme provides a flexible training schedule for students to select suitable training based on their own learning needs. Participants can increase their understanding on specific social issues and to equip themselves on social service planning in the next stage.

Stage 2 – Forming team to initiate your own Community Care Project!

Participants will form service teams to design their own community caring projects. They will be involved in itinerary design, service planning and project coordination alongside the SAO as well as local service partners.

Getting the guidance from service-learning tutor (served by NGO partners), participants will have a deeper understanding and reflection on a specific social issue, and successfully design the service which can fit the service target’s needs.

Stage 3 – Engaging in a fully/partially FUNDED Overseas service-learning trip

Selected students from stage 2 will be invited to join an overseas service-learning trip. Participants will understand more about the social issues in international aspects.

Participants will be involved in assessing needs of service targets, conceiving feasible and sustainable service projects, having post-service evaluation and reflection after returning back to HK.

Peer Mentor Scheme

Peer Mentor Scheme

“Peer Mentor Scheme” – spreading love in the campus

The Student Affairs Office, Peer Mentor Scheme launched in the academic year of 2015-16 academic year to promote caring atmosphere in the campus.

The theme “ABYS (Always By Your Side)” is designed for 2017-18 academic year to foster a positive and caring atmosphere on the HSUHK campus, promote help-seeking behavior when having emotional distress or feeling suicidal, and lower the stigma associated with mental health difficulties by receiving available social and professional support. The project also aims to train a group of Peer Mentors who are able to identify and assist students with social adjustment and psychological needs, and make referral to professional when necessary.

Senior Peer Mentors who served as Peer Mentors last year will act as the key organizers in this project under the professional advice by counselors and staff from Student Affairs Office. Senior Peer Mentors will also support the training of Peer Mentors and initiate caring activities in campus to achieve the project objectives.

Coached by Counsellors of Personal Growth & Counseling, Peer Mentors will attend a series of systematic training to facilitate participant’s peer helping skills, and will organize Student Initiated Programs to help students better understand themselves and facilitate the process of Peer Mentors to identify the students with emotional or mental needs for referral to professionals. Peer Mentors will also be awarded with a certificate of participation for contributing and taking part in the trainings and events held by the program through Peer Mentors Recognition Ceremony in the end of the project.
