Course Description:
This module examines the significance of sports in contemporary Hong Kong society. The first half of the module focuses on introducing various macro- and micro-sociological perspectives and students will understand the social and cultural influences of sports. The second half of the module guides the students through the relevant approaches to analyzing different issues, such as sports policy, national identity, commercialization, gender, and individual behaviour changes, etc., with respect to sports and its development in Hong Kong. By the end of the module, students are expected to suggest possible solutions to the problems discussed.
Upon completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Identify the importance of sports in the society.
- Examine a range of sociological perspectives on sports.
- Apply relevant approaches to analyzing selected sports-related issues in
Hong Kong. - Construct possible solutions to the problems with respect to sports in
Hong Kong society.
