HSUHK Inclusion Week 2024 : Embracing Diversity and Fostering Inclusion
The Student Affairs Office (SAO) proudly concludes the HSUHK Inclusion Week 2024, themed “We are the same, yet different,” a 4-day event uniting students and staff to champion diversity and foster inclusion. The event, held on campus from 25 to 30 January 2024, provided a transformative platform for meaningful discussions and interactive activities.
To inaugurate the event, the Addoil Workshop was invited to present the captivating and thought-provoking drama performance, “Uni-minds”, at the College Assembly. Inspired by the real stories and voices of university students, the performance aimed to depict the authentic experiences and challenges faced by individuals with various Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The show engaged the audience, inspiring reflection on embracing diversity and cultivating empathy. .
The Inclusion Booths showcased NGOs dedicated to promoting inclusivity and supporting individuals with special needs, were setup on the ground floor of the S H Ho Academic Building. Attendees learned about their valuable work, engaged in meaningful conversations, and explored creative products crafted by youth with SEN.

A pair of huge “Fai Chun” were prepared to celebrate the Year of the Dargon of 2024 as the photo-taking spot on Campus.
Various creative products, crafted by people with SEN, were showcased and promoted at the booths.
HSUHKers also had the opportunity to experience various thematic experiential workshops on “Visually Impaired Experiential Game,” “Sports for All – Floor-curling,” and “Process Drama: The Green Children” which offered participants an immersive experience, deepening their understanding of the diverse challenges faced by individuals with special needs. Through guided discussions and experiential activities, attendees developed empathy and acquired practical knowledge for fostering inclusion in their daily lives.

Visually Impaired Experiential Game
Participants, blindfolded, engaged in the “Collaborative Collection Game” to collect scattered items from different locations in the room under the guidance of visually impaired instructors. They also took part in the Braille Puzzle-solving Game, decoding the puzzles using a Braille reference chart.

Sports for All – Floor Curling
The students, accompanied by instructors with disabilities, sat in sports wheelchairs and together experienced wheelchair athletics and inclusive Floor Curling Games.

Process Drama: The Green Children
Through the provided pre-text, participants were guided by instructors to assume specific roles and explore the feelings, thoughts, and actions of individuals in different situations. Together, they co-constructed the development of the drama, leading to new insights and understanding of “social inclusion.”
We aspire to leave a seed in the hearts of HSUHKers through the diverse activities of Inclusion Week, encouraging continuous reflection on the significance of social inclusion and mutual respect. See you in 2025!

Support for SEN Students ＆ Case Study Workshop
Support for The Special Education Needs (SEN) Student and Case Study Workshop, jointly organised by the Student Affairs Office (SAO) (Inclusion and Diversity) and the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Section of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), concluded with great success. Led by Mr Vergo CHENG, Educational Psychologist of Heep Hong Society, the workshop on 30 August, 2023, succeeded in enhancing the awareness of knowledge of our University’s staff about the various types of SEN, common signs, and behaviours associated with them. Over 20 participants had the opportunity to analyse and discuss real-life case studies of university students with SEN. Mr Cheng’s expertise and guidance ensured the participants received comprehensive and practical advice.
